Cards on the table first: we built The Archive of Us, so the bias is in the page. What we can promise is a fair account of where each one wins. Where The Skin Deep wins
The conversation. A physical deck on the table, a question drawn, two people actually looking at each other — that is a ritual the web is bad at. The films behind the cards are the reason people know the name. Digital and physical editions start at $22; you can be talking tonight without making an account. If what you want is one extraordinary evening, pick the cards.
Where The Archive of Us wins
The record. You begin the archive and send a friend an invite. They take their own account. Each of you can write only in your own voice — the database itself refuses to put words in their mouth. Whoever writes second reads the first. The versions will not match. That is the point: contradictions stay, side by side, in a printable joint document you can open whenever you like.
It is not a paper book you fill in alone, and it is not a mailed hardcover. There is no Stripe. A companion book is planned for Christmas 2026; until then the keepsake is the archive itself. Modes on the questions — spread, post, together — are how an evening is meant to go, not software flags.

The honest caveat
We’re new. The Skin Deep has years of films, decks, and nights around a table. If you want the safest, most-tested way to have the conversation this weekend, that’s them. If you want the years kept after the box goes back on the shelf — two voices, one pair, an invite, a document you can print tonight — that’s us.
