What the service is

The Archive of Us is a tool for two friends to keep a written record of their friendship — questions to answer in two voices, a thread between you, and a printable archive document. Everything you write is stored in a private account; see the privacy policyfor how it’s protected.

What’s yours

Everything you and your friend write. All of it, forever. We claim no rights over your answers, your in-jokes, or your formal register of things borrowed and never returned. You can export the whole archive whenever you like — a keepsake is worth having in more than one place.

What’s ours

The questions, the design, the name, and the software. You’re welcome to read the public questions archive, share links to it, and use the questions with the people in your life. Please don’t republish the full set as your own, scrape the site wholesale, or sell the questions on.

Using it sensibly

• The app is provided as-is, free to use in your browser.
• It is a keepsake, not a safety-deposit box. We take good care of the database it lives in, but export anything you would truly mind losing.
• It is also not advice of any kind. If a page raises something the two of you need real help with, a book is the wrong tool — talk to someone qualified.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for losses that come from using the app — including loss of data. Nothing in these terms limits the liability the law won’t let us limit. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll say so plainly on this page with a new date at the top. We won’t change what’s yours: your words stay yours.
